Moments That (Literally) Take Your Breath Away

What do laughing, running, sneezing, coughing, inhaling polluted air, being around pets, walking in a wheat field, and smelling perfume all have in common? Nothing really, except for the fact that all of these events (as well as many others) have the potential to cause an asthmatic response, creating difficulty breathing that ranges from mild to severe. Sometimes even seemingly mundane activities can make a person with asthma suffer from an attack, and it seems to make little sense. So you might ask, "why does this happen?" While there is no simple answer, my goal in this blog is to clearly and succinctly explain to you first and foremost what asthma is, what causes a so-called "asthma attack," why certain events trigger an asthmatic response in some people and don't in others, how a person gets asthma, how someone can treat and manage their symptoms, and short and long-term complications that can occur in people living with this disease. I also hope to touch on a discussion of the social resources that may be available to people with asthma who need assistance in finding or affording treatment, medication, and support. As a person with asthma who is passionate about sharing this information, my goal is to inform you how you can lead a healthier, more productive life with this disease. We all want to be able to experience moments that take our breath away, without having to worry about them actually taking it away . Until next time,
Kaylin
